What Is Flow?
According to psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmikalyi, a flow state is a state of total immersion resulting in increased memory, data retention, comprehension and a highly developed sense for pattern recognition. An individual’s entire being becomes involved in the process of Flow and select cognitive processes intentionally shut themselves down to make way for the more powerful influence of the subconscious mind.
The ego suspends its operations for a time to allow for enhanced concentration and focus that is not hindered by self-consciousness or self-criticism. Feelings of empowerment accompany the state and physical need seem to diminish in the presence of flow. Flow is the optimum state of human functioning for the completion of a task.
